It was just over nine years ago that we first opened the doors of our original location, and it still seems like yesterday. But a lot can happen in almost a decade.

In that time, we’ve watched The Junction, once a quiet, out of the way nook, become one of Toronto’s most vibrant and thriving neighbourhoods. We’ve become a hub of art, music, community festivals, and amazing food. The many once-vacant storefronts have turned into the coolest collection of cafes, restaurants, and stores in town.

The Junction has grown up, and we have, too. We’ve been through fires, floods, and three staff weddings. We’ve added cash registers, new fridges, more efficient shelving, better staff perks, a bike-to-work program, and in the in the process, we’ve seen The Yam Fam (what we call ourselves) grow by almost 300%.

Now we’re growing into our beautiful new home around the corner on Vine, opening this September. And while we’ve grown up and out of our original space, we’re staying true to our sweet roots (pun intended). Everything is going to stay the same – same great people, same low prices, same awesome, fresh, locally sourced-whenever-possible organic and natural foods, except that everything is also getting BIGGER, CHEAPER, and MORE AWESOME.

We can’t wait to show you what we have in store (pun intended)! We’ll have bigger aisles packed with even more fresh fruits and veggies, a bakery, an in-house butcher and fresh fish counter, rotisserie chickens, more cash registers, a huge new kitchen with way more prepared foods, tons of new cheeses, paper products, fresh-pressed juice, pet foods, a relaxed and comfy seating area, and so much more! Plus, our increased size means we’ve been able to negotiate with suppliers to bring you even better pricing. Look for lowered prices on many key items in the coming weeks!

We’ve also worked hard to create a space we think you’ll love, with expanded accessibility services and community programs. Plus, the building we’re moving into is almost 100 years old, with tons of gorgeous old brick and most of the beams that make up the ceiling are still the original wood. It’s so cool! We fell in love with it as soon as we saw it, and we think you will, too!

If you’re not sure where all this is taking place, don’t worry – it’s literally just around the block at the corner of Pacific and Vine (see map below). It’s less than a two minute walk from our current store – close enough that if you were to throw a frisbee really hard from our roof, you could probably hit our new store (but please don’t try).
